FIRST AND SECOND GRADE PARENTS
Your child will be administered the High Frequency Word Evaluation for the
first time between November 9 and November 20, 2009. This test is a
promotion standard. Those students meeting 80% passing will have met the
promotion standard. Students who do not meet the 80% passing requirement
will take the second administration in April. On Wednesday, October 14,
your child brought home a list of words and flash cards. Please make flash
cards with your child and help your child practice.

set up your account. The lab will be available to those who would like
assistance on setting up your account. You can come during first Wednesday
on October 7, and October 8 during after Parent and PTO Meetings.

PARENT MEETING
We will be having a parent meeting on Thursday, October 8th from 5:00-6:00
p.m. come and see what assessments your child will be taking this year and
learn how you can help your child get ready for these tests.

CLASSES
Take advantage! We are offering
English classes for parents of students in grades Pre- K -2nd . Classes
are held in Ms. Miranda’s classroom on Monday at 3:30 p.m. Come one, come
ALL!
PARENT NUTRITION CLASS
Parent nutrition classes will be held on Monday, October
26th and November 2nd and 9th. Classes will begin at 8:30 a.m. For more
information, contact Ms. Wicks, School Counselor.
New
Piano Lab
We
have a brand new keyboard lab ! This lab will allow each of our 3rd,
4th and 5th graders to take piano lessons as part of
the weekly general music class. Each child will have access to the
keyboard (which interfaces with the computer) to learn the fundamentals
of music. Stop by room 17 and check it out!

Free
and Reduced Meal Program
It is very important that parents whose children participate in the
“Free & Reduced Meal program” return the 2009-2010 application to the
school as soon as possible. Students may use last year’s approval forms
until October 6, 2009. On October 7, 2009, students not approved by this
day will have to pay their lunch. All new students that were not in the
district last year will have to pay. Breakfast is free for all students.
The cost of lunch is $1.60. Reduce lunch is 40˘. Please contact Ms.
Jackson at 281-983-2800 if you need further assistance.
“CASE” AFTER SCHOOL CARE PROGRAM
Applications are now being accepted for our new after school program. If
you want to apply, keep in applications are taken on a first come, first
serve basis. Apply as soon as possible. Please see Ms. Franklin or Ms.
Pereira.
2009-2010 ENROLLMENT
FORMS
Please return to your child’s teacher as soon as possible the 2009-2010
enrollment form with any new telephone numbers and emergency contacts.
Student Safety
To help keep all of our students as safe as possible parents are asked
to park on Shaftsbury or Ravensworth when dropping or picking up
children. If you park across the street from the school, please walk
your child across the street. Do not send any child across the street
with out an adult escort. The faculty parking lot is reserved for
staff parking and as a drop-off spot for HISD BUSES ONLY.
Parents should not drop off or pick up students in the parking lot.
There is a separate area in front of the school where daycare buses may
drop off and pick up students.
Please do not walk your child through the faculty parking lot. Please
allow them to take the sidewalk to the front entrance of the school.
Pre – K
drop off is in the front lobby, dismissal in child’s classroom.
Kinder
drop off and dismissal is in the front lobby.
All students in 1st -5th
pick- up and drop – off areas are at the back playground.
The school hours are 7:55 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Breakfast begins at 7:30
a.m. and only those students who are eating breakfast at school should
be brought at that time. Students who are not eating breakfast should
arrive at school no earlier than 7:45 a.m.
Students should be picked up promptly at 3:00 p.m.

Nurse Corner
Health Problems:
If your child has a specific health condition that can impact them at
school or affect their education, please feel free to share this with
the school nurse. The information is confidential.
Medication: If
your child receives medication that needs to be given at school, you
must get a medication consent form from the school nurse. Medication
consent forms are required for asthma inhalers. Students are not
permitted to bring or keep on their person over the counter medications
(aspirin, Tylenol, cough meds, etc.) or throat lozengers.
Health Problems:
If your child has an allergy problem with foods, insects or medication,
please inform the school nurse as soon as possible.
