Calendar of Tests
The dates below include only those relevant to student testing in 2008 as related to promotion standards in grades 1–5. Visit Calendars for a more complete listing of testing dates.
January 14–24—Stanford 10/Aprenda 3 norm-referenced tests will be administered to all students in grades 1–5.
March 5—First administration of TAKS reading, grades 3 and 5 (English and Spanish).
March 9–April 18—Accelerated instruction will be provided for students in grades 3 and 5 who were not successful on the first administration of TAKS reading.
March 21—District receives Standard and Optional Reports for grades 3, and 5.
March 31–April 11—High-Frequency Word Evaluation for grades 1 and 2.
April 7—First administration of Linguistically Accommodated Testing (LAT) TAKS mathematics, grades 5. Note: The LAT process enables students who qualify for a limited-English-proficient exemption to take TAKS mathematics, science, and reading tests with accommodations designed to help them better understand the language used on the tests.
April 8—First administration of TAKS mathematics, grade 5 (English and Spanish).
April 28—LAT TAKS mathematics, grades 3, and 4.
April 29—LAT TAKS reading, grades 3–8; TAKS mathematics, grades 3, and 4, (English and Spanish).
April 30—TAKS reading, grades 3–5 (English and Spanish).
May 13—Second administration of TAKS mathematics, grade 5 (English and Spanish) (retesters).
May 16–23—Grade Placement Committee meetings to determine appropriate accelerated instruction.
June—Accelerated instruction will be provided through HISD summer school for students who have not met promotion standards.
June 18–20—Second administration of High-Frequency Word Evaluation for grades 1 and 2 (retesters).
Late June/Early July (to be determined)—Released TAKS in math and reading, grades 4 and 6.
June 26–27—Grade Placement Committee decisions regarding students in grades 4.
July 1—Third administration of TAKS mathematics, grade 5 (English and Spanish).
July 2—Third administration of TAKS reading, grades 3 and 5 (English and Spanish).
July 18–August 22—Grade Placement Committee meetings to:
– consider parental appeals of automatic retention of students in grades 3, 5.
– develop educational plans for students in grade 3 who failed the third administration of TAKS reading
– develop educational plans for students in grades 5 who failed the third administration of TAKS reading and/or mathematics.
August 25, 2008—May 2009—Accelerated instruction will be provided according to educational plans developed by the Grade Placement Committee for students in grade 3 who failed the third administration of TAKS reading and for students in grade 5 who failed the third administration of TAKS reading and/or mathematics.
