Why Pre-AP for BCS' Middle School?
The K-5 program is designed to prepare students for an academically challenging middle school program.
Small class size of middle school allows for significant acceleration of instruction and in-depth study of content areas.
Middle school curriculum is specialized and requires a narrower range of student abilities to meet everyone's needs.
A small middle school like BCS cannot financially afford a broad range of services (Resource, Gifted/Talented, Regular, ESL, etc.) so we had to select the one that a majority of our 5th would need-- Accelerated Instruction.
What about student admission from other schools?
BCS fifth grade students and new applicants for middle school are screened by the Admissions Review Team.
Current BCS students receive priority review; all current fifth grade student records are reviewed and admission status determined prior to review of new applicants.
Zones approved for application: Pilgrim, Briargrove, Piney Point & Emerson.
Does the faculty have special training?
The Middle School Faculty attends specific training in Pre-AP curriculum and instruction strategies and update training yearly to assure program excellence.
