A Visit From MaryAnn the Cow

Pre-K, kindergarteners, first and second graders had the opportunity to see a real milking cow.  MaryAnn and her friend, Dan,  from Southwest Dairy Farmers came to visit the students to tell them why milking cows are so important to us.  The students saw how cows used to be milked and how they are milked today with a special machine.  They also had the chance to see how much milk could be pumped from MaryAnn in just one minute.  Students had the opportunity to ask questions from MaryAnn's friend, Dan. There was so much to learn about milk.  The kids learned where milk comes from,  how the milk is gets pasteurized,  how it is cooled down from 98 degrees, and then how it is shipped to the grocery store for all of us to buy so that we can grow up big, strong, and healthy.
