CECC-Early Childhood Center

During the 1997-98 school year, the Houston Independent School District and the Hispanic Housing and Education Corporation entered into an agreement to house an early childhood center on the premises of the East End Apartments, a 150 unit apartment project built by the Hispanic Housing and Education Corporation. Any children living in the apartments would be given priority in attending the center. The educational center was to be a part of the Edna M. Carrillo Elementary School. It became a reality in February, 1998.
The school provides an enriched classroom environment that encourages collaboration with older/younger peers and interaction with several teachers and learning styles. The students benefit academically as well as socially from the increased teacher collaboration and the supportive environment that is inherent in a child-centered approach to early childhood education. The multi-age program models the family structure, thereby promoting a nurturing and supportive environment for students.
