Teacher of The Year
The faculty and staff wish to congratulate Ms. B. Smith,
Bilingual Kindergarten Teacher, and Ms. M. Libby, Second Grade Vanguard
Teacher for their accomplishment on being named Carrillo Elementary
Teachers of the Year. Ms. B. Smith was also awarded the East District
Bilingual Teacher of the Year.

As a Bilingual Kindergarten Teacher I try
to provide my students with positive and productive early learning
experience that caters to the child's developmental, social, intellectual
and affective needs.
B. Smith

The three characteristics that
I feel every good teacher possess are passion, creativity, and
flexibility. A teacher who brings these qualities to the
classroom will be more likely to help students reach their
highest potential.
First, a teacher with a love of learning will
make a strong effort to make learning more fun for the
students.
Next, creativity is
and should be the foundation to learning in any environment.
I believe that the teaching profession attracts creative
people and gives them an outlet for expressing this
creativity.
Lastly, I feel that
every teacher needs to be flexible. Flexibility in the
classroom helps the children to learn to be resilient and to
adapt to changes.
When a
student expresses an interest in a topic, I take the time to
expand their interest by incorporating it into the classroom.
There have been several times when a great lesson resulted
from a question from one of my students. Together, my students
and I have explored and discovered many topics arose from
their natural curiosity.
