The Vanguard Program at Carrillo Elementary School opened during the 1997-98 school year. It is one of the newest and most successful Vanguard programs in HISD.
The Vanguard program features an enriched academic program, cross grade level collaboration, multi-level differentiated curriculum, integrated thematic units, technology across the curriculum and small class size. It is designed for students with superior performance on standardized abilities and achievement tests. Emphasis is placed on hands-on activities, including field trips.
