The Buzz from Mr. B

I always enjoy writing the May Condit Connection because it gives me an opportunity to reflect on the past year and to thank everyone who made it possible.  This year’s article means so much to me that I am finding it hard to write.  It is difficult to find the right words to express my gratitude for all of the kindness that has been shown to me and my family.  I have always viewed being the principal of Condit as a blessing.  It has afforded me the opportunity to be associated with some remarkable people.  When I became ill in January, the importance of this job to my life became abundantly clear to me. It also made me think that in some small way I may have been taking my job and the people around me for granted.  If I ever made any of you feel this way, you have my most sincere apology.  Every parent, student, and teacher has a very special place in my heart!  Two individuals deserve a very special thank you.  I will forever be in debt to Dan Greenberg and Norma Ruiz.  My recovery was made so much easier knowing they were at the school taking care of things.  They are both perfect examples of why it is important to hire intelligent responsible people for positions.  Dan, Norma, Thank You!

The year has gone by at an incredible pace.  It is even quicker when you miss three months!  Summer will surely move just as fast.  The students have stepped up and met the academic challenges this year, and I am sure their effort will be reflected in their Stanford and STAAR scores.  We have spent the year learning about the new STAAR test, and I know we are going to be ready to meet the challenge when it counts for school ratings next year.

One of the remarkable attributes of our school is teacher longevity.  Unfortunately, three of our teachers are retiring after many years of service to the students of Condit.  Ellen Peguero - 19 years, Ann Abbott - 22 years, and Theresa Chambers - 33 years are heading off for a well deserved rest.  We wish them the best and thank them for their loyal service.  Catherine Spavital is leaving us to become a full-time mother.  She is a wonderful teacher and she will be greatly missed.  Fortunately, we have been able to find four outstanding teachers to take their place.  Each one is a dynamic veteran teacher who will bring many wonderful skills to our team.  I am already getting excited about next year.

Condit Elementary is a very special place, and I hope to see everyone back here in August.  For our fifth grade parents who will be leaving us, I appreciate you giving us the opportunity to teach your children.  I firmly believe they are ready for the next step in their educational journey.  Remember that you will always be part of the Condit family.

Have a great summer!

5th GRADE FOOD DRIVE
May 14 – May 18
Condit students are helping to feed hungry families in our community.  During the week of May 14 – May 18, the fifth graders will be collecting bags of nonperishable food items to donate to the Christian Community Service Center (CCSC).   CCSC is a coalition of 43 area churches united in service to help those in need.  The organization operates two food pantries that serve people in our neighborhood. Last year 150 bags of food were collected. Please join in our goal of collecting 200+ bags of food this year.  Items needed most include hearty soups and stews, cereal, canned fruit and canned meat. The Condit food drive helps fill the CCSC food pantry shelves for the summer months when donations have historically declined.  Please be on the lookout for our bags on May 14. The 5th graders would be grateful for any size contribution to this very worthy cause.
