COMMUNICATIONS
What if I need to talk with my child's teacher?
Send a note with your child or call the main office and leave a
message for the teacher. She/he will call you back either before or after school or during
a planning period. You can also send an
e-mail. If your question
can not be satisfactorily addressed over the phone, a conference can be scheduled.
What if my child is having difficulty in class?
....I have a question regarding class work/homework/ special
projects.
....my child is having a problem with another student.
The answer to these and many more issues is: speak to your child's
teacher.
What if my child is having difficulty with a teacher?
Discuss the situation with that teacher. Working together and asking
questions benefits everyone. If you do not feel the matter has been effectively dealt
with, contact the principal; you may
want to address the problem in writing.
There is an emergency that delays me picking up my child on
time - what should I do?
Tell your child that they can go to the office if there is any problem with
pick up. Please be courteous and call the office (713) 295-5255 to make staff aware of any
emergency that arises.
How can I let you know that my work phone number,
address, or emergency number has changed?
Call, write, or e-mail the
teacher and/or the
office with any important changes. For
your child's safety this is critical.

FIELD TRIPS
How do I know which field trips are scheduled?
You will normally get a permission slip to sign well before the day of the
trip.
My child forgot to bring home / lost the permission slip. What can I do?
No child will be allowed to take part in a field trip without a signed
permission form. However, in future you will be able to download the correct form and send
it in right away with your child. Unfortunately, H.I.S.D. regulations do not allow faxing
or e-mailing permission forms. We must have your original signature.

ILLNESS
What if my child is not feeling well, but doesn't seem ill
enough to stay home?
Your child's teacher will refer your child to the nurse if he/she begins to
feel worse. The nurse will call parents if necessary. (Please keep
emergency phone numbers current!)
Children should remain home if they are running a fever, and until they are fever free for
24 hours.
What if my child is ill for an extended period of time?
Call school for work assignments. (You can also
e-mail teachers - but
remember, teachers do not always have the time to check e-mail before the end of classes.)
Teachers will send assignments to the office for you to pick up and take home. When
returning to school your child will need a note from his or her physician.
What do I do about my child's medicine?
Medication must be left with the school nurse. This is HISD School Board policy for the
protection of all children. Medication is defined as any drug prescribed by a physician.
Medicine must be in the original container. Medical permission forms are available in the
school nurse's office. Children are not permitted to have in their
possession over-the-counter medication of any sort - this must be left at home.
