Ms. Camero
All students at Condit come to the Art room one day per week for 45 minutes.
The Art curriculum follows the Texas and the National Art Education guidelines.
The art classes allow the students to explore the elements and principles of art through a variety of media.  The students learn skills while creating with paint, clay, drawing loots and sculpture.  The art work that the student produce is always on display throughout the school.

Music

Ms. Daly
Music at Condit includes a variety of areas of study.  In a general music classroom setting we study basic music theory, folk music literature, multi-cultural music literature, music history, folk dances and musical terms, their meanings and applications.
Every grade level at Condit performs a yearly musical as part of their music curriculum. We also have the Condit Children's Choir that is offered to 4th and 5th grade students upon audition.  One fact that is understood at our school is that music is an important part of our educational process.

P.E.

Mr. Johnson
Grades K-5 attend physical education once a week for a 45 minute session. P.E. teaches students how to lead healthy and physically fit lifestyles. The students will also learn the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship.
Throughout the year, students will experience a variety of P.E. units. These units include fitness, recreational activities, rhythm/dance, and sports.
A culminating activity of many lessons the students have learned is field day. Field Day will take place near year's end and promises to a lot of fun.

Ancillary Spotlight— Physical Education by Coach Johnson

Each January brings a new year, and the new year brings resolutions. One of the most popular New Year’s resolutions is to shed a few pounds/exercise more. Leave it to your friendly neighborhood PE teacher to offer some simple suggestions to make this resolution a reality. First of all, make exercise a family event. Try to schedule regular times throughout the week for your family to be physically active. Activities like walking, bike riding, and shooting hoops are great forms of family exercise. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, then you could always play an interactive video game withyour kids to get that heart rate up. That’s right, I said video game. Nintendo WII games like Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games and WII Sports are wonderful for family exercise. Dance Dance Revolution on multiple gaming systems (WII, PS2, PS3, Xbox) is another popular video game that will keep the family moving. The key is to find something that doesn’t seem like work. Exercise is easiest when it’s enjoyable. A variety of activities will also help your family stick with an exercise program.
Here at Condit I try to give the students a large variety of sports, exercises, games and rhythmic activities in PE class. During the first part of the school year all students learned about the parts of tennis racket. They also learned how to grip the racket properly and how to hit a forehand. The older students (Grades 3-5) also learned how to hit a backhand and eventually got the opportunity to play some singles matches. A primary focus in PE with the younger students (Grades K-2) is moving safely and under control through general space. We do a lot of locomotor activities to encourage proper development. Locomotor movements include: walking, jogging, skipping, hopping, jumping, leaping and running. Many sports require an athlete to throw an object. I try to have all students throwing in a mature pattern before they leave elementary school. A mature throwing pattern is a contralateral movement, i.e. step left and throw right for right-handed people. Lefties will step right and throw left. Students will participate in many throwing activities/games in PE class to reinforce that mature pattern.

The upper grades (3-5) completed a flag football unit in the month of December, and all students in grades K-5 will begin a basketball unit in January. Students will learn how to dribble, pass, shoot and defend. Students will also get the opportunity to use the scooter boards during the school year. The scooter boards are great way for students to increase balance, upper body and lower body strength. When the weather refuses to cooperate with me, and it always does, students will participate in some of our indoor activities. Students will learn to juggle with scarves, increase their eye-hand coordination with cup stacking and work on eye-foot coordination with Dance Dance Revolution (DDR). Cupstacking and DDR are two new activities to Condit this year. I am certain the students will enjoy them thoroughly. When spring rolls around, grades 3-5 will begin their square dance unit. Square dancing is a part of Texas history that perfectly coincides with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Students will learn a life-long activity that will give them a sense of rhythm, increase their listening skills, teach cooperation, and help them follow directions. As the school year starts to wind down, all students will take part in a soccer unit. Students will learn to trap, pass, shoot on goal and defend. They will also learn the basic rules of the game as well. In late April and early May, students will participate in the Coach Johnson’s Fitness Challenge. Over a four-week period, students will be tested in five different fitness areas: consecutive push-ups, abdominal crunches in a minute, jumping jacks in a minute, sit and reach, and the shuttle run. Students will earn points for their field day team as they complete each challenge. The end of May brings Field Day 2008. Field Day is they day when all students are divided into two teams (Green and White) and spend the entire school day competing in various physical challenges, scoring points for their respective teams. To me, it is the best day of the year. My opinion is biased though. Hopefully I have given you some insight about the PE program at Condit Elementary. Feel free to contact me a school with your questions, comments or concerns.
