From the Pre-K Korner

We can hardly believe that our first year at Condit is almost over! Wow, have we learned a lot! There were letters and sounds, reading and counting sentences in our daily language stories, putting sounds together, reading lots of books, numbers to 20 (and beyond), counting by 10’s, etc. -- plus interesting science and social studies activities. Most recently we had fun studying insects and spiders, which correlated with our exciting field trip to the Bellaire Nature Discovery Center. Throughout all of our activities, we have tried to remember the other important stuff, too—being nice to our friends, sharing, and cooperating. A very special THANKS to our wonderful parents for all of the terrific help and support they have given us this year! We are definitely off to a great start in our learning. Now we are looking forward to our end of the year events -- and to being in Kindergarten next fall! (Ms. Speert says that we are ready!) We wish everyone a very
Happy Summer!

FROM THE KINDERGARTEN KORNER

It’s hard to believe but the year is just about over! It goes by so fast! We have seen tremendous growth in your children both physically and academically! They have made great strides in their reading, writing and math skills.

This spring all the classes have studied parts of plants and have planted seeds in their gardens. We are currently learning about insects and are watching butterflies hatch from their cocoons in the rooms. We just went on a fun and educational field trip to the Children’s Museum.

During the summer we would like to encourage you to continue practicing with your children at home in order to keep their skills going for the coming school year. Suggested activities include:

  1. Practice listening skills – reading and answering questions, listening and repeating long sentences or a list of words.
  2. Following directions – give your child a series of 3 or 4 things to do in order.
  3. Writing practice – copying words and sentences, keeping a summer journal, writing letters to friends and relatives.
  4. Reading – all that they can! Continue to review phonograms, spell words, make silly rhymes.
  5. Math – practice addition and subtraction facts, counting and identifying numbers to 100, counting by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s, review money and telling time to the hour and half-hour.

Remember to make it fun. Turn it into a game!

All the K teachers would like to say a special THANK YOU to all of our wonderful parents who volunteered their time this year to help out in the room and on field trips. We couldn’t do it without you and you really make a difference in our classroom!  We greatly appreciate all that you do!
