Teacher of the Year 2006-2007!
|
Congratulations, Mrs. Delon Palmer, our Teacher of the Year!
Education has been my leader for the past nine years. I have completely immersed myself in the education system. I am always seeking ways to improve myself so that I will be beneficial to the students that come my way. I have opened the door to the world of ‘never ending’ learning, by pulling out all that I can to keep the learning environment open, enriched, and stimulating. I have found enjoyment in watching my students’ reach levels of success and to know that I was part of that learning. I have concentrated on my upbringings from my grandmother that has helped to foster my education. My grandmother instilled in me a solid foundation of nurturing and caring for others.
As a teacher I have sought to encourage children to reach for their highest goals and aspirations. I have individually interacted with the students. I pride myself on creating interactive, high-interest activities and programs that challenge and stimulate their minds. I have exposed children to all the current events that are taking place in our society. I strive to develop my students into conscientious citizens of our learning community.

Butterflies On Display!

Cornelius students were lucky enough to learn about the life cycle of the Painted Lady Butterfly first hand! A case which displayed the butterflies has been outside of the office for over one month. The students saw eggs turn into beautiful butterflies before their very eyes! Below is a description of the entire life cycle of a butterfly!

The first stage of the butterfly is the egg stage. The eggs are very tiny and normally a stage that few people will see.
The caterpillar is the second stage of the butterfly. The caterpillar is the stage that most people will see. The caterpillar will eat, spin silk, and grow very large. They will stay in this stage for approximately 7 to 10 days.
The third stage of the butterfly is the chrysalis. The chrysalis is made out of silk and spun by the caterpillar. It will stay in this stage 7 to 10 days before becoming butterflies.
The Painted Lady Butterfly's scientific name is Vanessa cardui, L. She can lay up to 500 eggs. She may travel 1,000 miles in her lifetime. She tastes with her feet and breathes through her abdomen.

Music News
The Fine Arts Department would like to thank all the students, parents, and teachers who made Saturday, April 6th at Dodson Elementary such a successful event. The Gulf Coast Orff Association Spring Festival was very well attended, and our students represented Cornelius in a very special way with their music making. The recorder ensemble, "Men in Black" were outstanding and even played an encore. These students will receive a certificate of participation and a special thank you from Mrs. Stenborg and Mrs. Fowlkes. A special thanks goes out to Mrs. Ochoa for supporting her class in their music making. Thanks to the Cornelius PTO for their financial support!
