Flower Gardens
The garden club members planted several types of flowers in the Nature Center this year. Pansies and Camellias were planted in the fall. Mexican Heathers,Tulip bulbs  Daffodils and others will be planted in the spring. When planting flowers, the students always take into consideration that certain flowers like shade, while others like plenty of sunlight  How much  water a plant needs is another factor that is considered. The garden club members take proper care of all the flowers in the Nature Center to enable anyone to enjoy the beauty of the flowers.

Rose Garden
Two rose beds have a combination of  Queen Elizabeth, J.F.Kennedy, Ore Gold, and Peace roses surrounded by Lantanas. Recently, we researched areas of Texas that grow roses in large quantities and discovered that Tyler ,Texas is famous for producing lots of roses. We were especially impressed  by the fact that there are many senior citizens still growing and caring for roses .One interesting person is 75 year old  M. T.Thompson , who has 10 acres of roses.  Each year he grows 20-30 species of roses and takes to market approximately 50,000 roses. Some of his favorite roses are Mr. Lincoln, and Don Juan. We communicated with Mr.Thompson by E-Mail as well as by the telephone. We have dedicated one of our rose beds to Mr.Thompson as a tribute to his occupation and his love for beautiful roses.

Butterfly Garden
There are two butterfly gardens in the Cornelius Nature Center. Each year, many butterflies are attracted to our gardens. Some of the plants that are in the butterfly garden are Butterfly weed, Black -eyed Susans and many other butterfly plants .One of the pictures above shows some of our butterfly plants and a yellow butterfly.
