ABSENCE AND TARDINESS OF STUDENTS
State law requires students to be in attendance a minimum of 170 days per year for elementary students with no more than eight unexcused absences to be considered for promotion. Excused absences do not count against the 170 day attendance requirement.
Regular attendance by each student is a requirement. Parents will be contacted whenever a child is consistently absent or tardy. When a student persists in being tardy or absent, the school authorities, together with the attendance officer will investigate and take the appropriate action.
When tardy or absent, a student is required to present a written excuse signed by the parent or guardian. This excuse must be received within three days of an absence or tardy. The excuse should include the date(s) and reason for absence or tardiness. The only acceptable excuses for absences and tardiness are personal illness, sickness or death in the family, quarantine, weather or road conditions making travel dangerous, participation in school activities with permission of the principal, and unusual circumstances recognized by the principal.

Students are tardy to class unless they are in the room and seated before the tardy bell sounds. After 7:50 AM, students must secure a tardy permit from the office before entering class.
