SCHOOL NURSE AND CLINIC

Crawford has clinic facilities available to assist our staff and students with sudden illnesses and injuries that occur during school hours.

The school nurse has many important responsibilities that include: administering emergency first aid, reviewing and maintaining immunization records, completing vision, hearing, and scoliosis screening, in-servicing staff on proper first aid procedures, and health and safety lessons to every class.

The school nurse and clinic facilities are not intended to replace the family doctor or neighborhood medical clinic. Therefore, please investigate and take care of health complaints by your child before sending him/her to school. Please clean and bandage cuts and abrasions that occur at home. Consult a doctor for serious health concerns.

Students will only be sent to the nurse for health concerns that place the student or others at risk of further injury or illness, or when the illness or injury prevents the student from participation in class activities.

There may be times that the nurse will send a doctor’s referral home with your child. Please be sure that the referral card is completed by the doctor and returned to school on the day the student returns to school. When doctor’s orders on the appropriate form are on file in the clinic, prescribed medication may be administered by the nurse or other trained designated personnel.

In case of serious injury or illness, you or the emergency contact on your child’s enrollment card will be contacted to pick up the child from school. It is expected that someone arrive within one hour of the call, if not sooner. Please make sure that the school has two working phone numbers in case of such an emergency.
