Creating a College Bound Culture
In his annual "State of
the Schools" address in February, Superintendent of Schools Abelardo Saavedra
had declared that HISD is making strong progress in its push to create a
"college-bound culture" in every school and every neighborhood.
Crockett’s Fifth Grade
students’ promotion ceremony organized in May this year was aligned with
HISD’s above stated policy. Three young college graduates from Crockett’s Alumni addressed
the class of 2007, stressing the importance of college education citing their
own individual experiences.
For our fifth graders
completing their elementary school education and preparing to go into Middle
School (in their quest to ultimately complete college education), it is an
important milestone in their lives. The celebration was marked with music,
song and dance performances by students of various grade levels and parents.
