Marina Heckert Wins HISD Holiday Art Contest!

Grade 3 student artist, Marina Heckert’s design has been chosen as this year’s winning entry for the HISD Holiday Card Contest.Schools submitted their top student designs to their respective regional administrative offices for judging. Regional superintendents then selected as many as four designs to pass on to Superintendent Abelardo Saavedra for consideration.  Marina’s design was chosen from a field of 21 entries received from Grade 2 through Grade 12 students from across the district. Her design creation (see below) features a pair of colorful bells against an intricate backdrop. The bells symbolize Love, Joy, Peace and Freedom and these words are inscribed in the painting.

Last year, Marina was among the 22 finalists of the 2004 Holiday Card Contest. This year, the talented third grader from Crockett has gone one further. As the winner, her design will now be featured on HISD’s official holiday greeting card. Each holiday season HISD sends holiday greeting cards to hundreds of people and organizations, including community leaders and partners, legislators, principals and special groups.

Congratulations Marina & keep up the good work!
