Computer Lab
Mariesse Samuels - Technologist, CET, CCIT
Christina Gonzalez, Computer Lab Assistant
Every student
in school attends computer lab once per week to receive instruction in
computer skills and integrated technology.
Our lab is equipped with thirty
HP up-to-date XP computers with
flat screen monitors. Lessons are
monitored and tracked online with assessments designed to evaluate each
module of curriculum.

The State of
Texas mandated curriculum for elementary school computer class is Easy Tech,
a web-based software designed by Learning.com. Beginning at the
Kindergarten level, students learn keyboarding skills and progress through a
sequential curriculum to learn word processing, spreadsheets, research
skills, paint and draw programs, scanning, email basics, and web building.
The program is offered in English and Spanish. EasyTech is a
Web-delivered K-8 technology literacy curriculum. It integrates technology
skills into math, science, language arts and social studies
instruction.
Throughout the school year, various types of web-based software programs
will be introduced into the curriculum to supplement the foundation courses
for each grade level. Our recent addition of EducationCity.com is a
great success!
Micro Lab

The Micro Lab learning environment
is equipped with new HP computers and monitors. It is designed to be used
as a resource center for one-on-one teaching and remediation, small learning groups,
instructing students in technology-based projects, technology
training for teachers, and supervised on-line research. The objective
is to provide guided instruction using technology integration.
Sony Play Stations implement Plato Achieve Now Reading and
Language Arts modules. Plato is
an interactive curriculum
program that’s been proven to increase academic achievement in reading,
language arts, and mathematics for K–8 students. This powerful program
targets individual student’s needs, challenging them to advance and excel.
It’s flexible enough to be used within a whole classroom setting, in small
groups, or in one-on-one tutorials. It addresses the needs of the No Child
Left Behind Act with a scientifically research-based curriculum and an
accompanying literacy library that aligns to all major standards.
Our recent
addition of Scholastic's READ 180 is a suite of four software
applications: 1) the READ 180 student application, 2) Scholastic
Reading Inventory assessment software, 3) Scholastic Reading Counts! reading
motivation software, and 4) Scholastic Management Suite. Each of these
four applications connects with a large database that contains student
performance data.
