DISPLAY BOARD EXAMPLES

SAMPLE LAYOUTS:
There is no one correct way to set up your board.  It must, however, make sense and follow the steps of the scientific method.  Remember:

bullet If you use a title, you still need the question (or problem).
bullet We read from left to right and from top to bottom.   Groups topics that go together like question, research, and hypothesis;  materials and procedures;  analysis and conclusion.
bullet Put pictures and graphs where they fit best and make the most sense.
bullet Make sure you proofread any written work.

Below are different ways to organize your board. Try your own - just make sure it makes sense.
Try backing your words with a contrasting color.

Use the planning template on the back of this page.

Letter to Parents

spaceship school

January 8, 2007

Dear Parents,

Your child has been invited to take part in a science fair, an exciting event that encourages students to think like young scientists. During the next few months your child will be designing a science project that uses the scientific method to  solve a problem. We hope you agree that the educational benefits are numerous, as students develop skills in writing, oral presentation, creative thinking, and problem solving.

Each student will be given instructions and handouts during class for the various steps of his or her project. Most of the work will be completed at home, and students will receive a calendar noting due dates for each part of the project. Please adhere to the due dates; students are receiving feedback each time assignments are turned in.  For suggestions on helping your child through this process — from choosing a topic to the final report-see the Web site "Parents — Get Involved" at http://discoveryschool.com/sciencefaircentral/scifairstudio/parents.html.

I ask that you encourage your child and monitor his or her progress along the way. Your support is key to a successful project, but please do not allow your involvement to extend any further in order to assure equity and promote student learning! It is important that your child  wrestle with problems and try to solve them. Guide your child whenever and wherever you can, but let the final project reflect your child's individual effort and design. Also, keep in mind that a successful project can be completed for under $10.

Please let me know if you'd like more information on creating a successful science fair project. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to watching your child enjoy this unique opportunity for scientific discovery!

Sincerely,

Kesha L. Dailey-Massey

Question

{What do you want to know?}

Does a dog’s mouth have more germs than a human mouth?

Hypothesis

{If……, then……..}

If a dog’s mouth is swabbed, then it will show it has more germs than a human mouth.

Bibliography

(Mount to the back of your display board.

Results

(State exactly what happened.)

The human mouth grew the most bacteria faster than the dogs.

Conclusion

(I found out…)

 I found that a dog’s mouth is much cleaner that the human mouth because it grew less bacteria.
