Gordon
Elementary is served by a school -wide Title I Part A
program that serves every student in order to enhance
instruction for students according to the “Texas
Essential Knowledge and Skills” guidelines. The program
provides that all students have an equitable and
significant chance to acquire a high-quality education.
All teachers at Gordon Elementary are “highly
qualified” and meet the criteria as stated by the “No
Child Left Behind Act.”
Kindergarten through fifth grade students come to the
Title I lab for supplemental help in Reading, Math, ESL,
and spelling as well as a science component for fifth
grade students. Teachers also are able to check-out a
variety of instructional materials from Title I in order
to assist them with reading, math, ESL, science and
social studies skills. Many practice materials are
available for support with the norm-referenced, state
and district assessments.
The
Title I program at Gordon Elementary offers parents
various activities to be involved in their child’s
academic life. Family Math, Reading and Science Nights
are presented throughout the school year, as well as
“Test Information Nights for Parents” for both the
primary and intermediate grades. Monthly “Parent Coffee
with the Principal” meetings are offered so that parents
may have a chance to discuss topics of interest or to
listen to a speaker that presents relative topics.
In
addition to the Title I Part A program at Gordon
Elementary, the Title III program serves the “Early
Language Learners” with many opportunities for
acquisition of English. A wide array of instructional
materials are provided and also opportunities for parent
involvement as a result of this program.
