Homework Policy

Why we assign Homework:
We believe homework is important because it is a valuable aid in helping students make the most of their experience in school. We give homework because it is useful in reinforcing what has been learned in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons, teaches responsibility and helps students develop positive study habits.

When homework will be assigned:
Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday nights. Assignments should take students no more than sixty minutes to complete each night, not including studying for tests and working on projects. Spelling tests will be given each Friday. We will give students at least two weeks’ notice to study for important tests, and written reports will be assigned at least twice each grading period.

Student’s homework responsibilities:
We expect students to do their best job on their homework. We expect homework to be neat, not sloppy. We expect students to do their work on their own and only ask for help after they have given it their best effort. We expect that all assignments will be turned in on time.

Teacher’s Homework Responsibilities:
We will check all homework. Because we strongly believe in the value positive support plays in motivating children to develop good study habits. We will give students praise and other incentives when they do their homework.

Parent’s Homework Responsibilities:
Parents are the key to make homework a positive experience for their children. Therefore, we ask that parents make homework a top priority, provide necessary supplies and a quiet homework environment, set a daily homework time, provide praise and support, not let children avoid homework, and contact us if they notice a problem.
