Statement
The mission of Katherine Smith School is
to provide a learning environment which promotes academic excellence,
develops each student's potential, produces responsible citizens, enhances
self-worth, fosters physical and emotional well-being for our students to
make sound decisions in our multicultural society.

Overview of
School
K. Smith offers a school-wide Title I
program which funds a full-time social worker and technology teacher. G/T
Neighborhood Program classes with G/T certified teachers are at each grade level
for our Gifted and Talented students. Other programs offered
include, but are not limited to, A Balanced
Approach to Reading, Academics 2000 Kindergarten Waterford Reading Program, and STAR
Reading and Math. The school also participates in District History Fair, Science Fair, Number Sense contests,
Bilingual/English spelling bees, art contests, and other district competitions.
The school also has the 21st Century After-School Program. The program is free
to students and provides enrichment activities including Homework help,
Tutorials, Arts & Crafts, Karate, Piano, and Science.

School uniforms are required for all students. Our
school uniform is as follows:
Navy or Khaki - pants, skirts, jumpers, skorts (knee
length)
shorts (knee length), plain jeans are allowed but not
preferred
Shirts - Red, Navy or White polo style with collar
