ACCELERATED READER

Kolter Elementary students in grades 2-5 will participate in the Accelerated Reader Program. This program combines the best in literature with computer software that test comprehension and manages student records. Students may periodically be given the STAR test which determines a reading zone that would create optimal reading enjoyment and growth. Students use that reading zone to select a book. Once they have completed reading their selection the student takes a comprehension test for that book on the computer in their classroom. The program produces a score immediately which provides instant reinforcement.

PROGRAM GUIDELINES

The AR program will be introduced at the second grade level. Each grade level will have a set number of required books to be read during the nine-week period. All students will participate in the nine-week reward if they meet the criteria established for their grade level. The primary determining factor will be an 80% average of all the tests taken during the nine weeks. This will be determined by reviewing a class printout at the end of the grading period.
