K. Kolter Elementary School
Fourth Grade
Do’s and Don’ts
Do
look at your child’s agenda
every night to determine what homework has been assigned.
Don’t sign the agenda unless
teacher and parent have agreed a signature is required.
Do provide a quiet homework
spot at home.
Do
“check over” the homework –don’t do it. We will assume that
perfect papers are the reflection of concepts mastered.
Do put homework and all related
school items that need to return to school into a zipped backpack the
night before. This will eliminate your child’s work from growing legs
and walking away!
Do
read at least 20 minutes each night. Reading with or to your child is
encouraged.
Do review the past week’s work
in the Tuesday folder, sign it and return the folder on Wednesday.
Do sign Reading Log on Thursday
night. Log is due, signed, every Friday at the beginning of class.
Do plan long term projects out
to avoid last minute frenzy and frustrations.
Don’t bring mechanical pencils to
school.
Do monitor your child’s
supplies to make sure he/she has everything needed. Remember, supplies
are consumable!
Do check into the office when
entering the building.
Don’t
come directly to the classroom.
Don’t continually “rescue” your
child by bring in forgotten homework and lunches. The office is often
overwhelmed by these items and may not be able to bring them to your
child.
Do read the weekly pink
newsletter and the weekly 4th grade update for the latest
information.
Do feel free to email/write us
with any questions, concerns or conference requests. Conference time is
10:00 -10:30.
