Kolter’s International Night Out
by Bryna Kennedy
World peace! Students at Kolter Elementary School know what it looks like. It looks like International Night Out! Every year, Kolter celebrates world cultures with a night of music, dance, and of course: food!
The evening began with the Parade of Nations. Kids in international dress proudly marched in, to the tune of “It’s a Small World.” Japanese Taiko drums called everyone to the festivities. French dancers performed a spell-binding pantomime. Athletes from the Shaolin Kung Fu academy wowed us with their skills. Finally, Spanish dancers added a Latin flare to the show.
Then it was time for food. From baklava to sushi, and everything in between, students and parents were treated to delectable morsels from around the world. Countries that were represented include Mexico, Spain, France, Japan, China, Cuba, Argentina, Puerto Rico, India, Nepal, Israel, Italy, Congo, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Poland and Turkey. Said one attendee, “It feels like the United Nations in my stomach!” International Night Out was a huge success.
