Edible Aquarium.

TEKS SCI.1.10A

We wanted to share some pictures of our first graders’ edible aquarium. In Science we have been investigating how the external characteristics of an animal are related to where it lives, how it moves, and what it eats. We also observed and identified all the basic parts of a fish. The students also had an opportunity to watch a short educational video on fish in aquariums. We decided to extend the lesson by allowing the students to create an edible aquarium. Many of the students were able to understand that the blue Jell-o represented the water ( habitat for fish) and the  red gummy fish represented the fish in water. The students were actively engaged and very excited about this activity especially when they had the chance to eat the aquarium. We made sure that we explained that real aquariums cannot be eaten!!!
