Magnet School Information
Longfellow's Magnet Program consists of classes in art, music, orchestra and band.  Every student participates in one of these 45-minute classes daily. Some students are selected through auditions to participate  enrichment class.

Music is subdivided into band, orchestra, and general music. Students are placed in music classes at the discretion of music teachers according to interest, rhythm ability, formal tests, and available space. Parents are expected to encourage and supervise daily home practice sessions with instruments. Student and parent will sign an annual letter of commitment for all performing groups.

Students have several opportunities to perform during the year for PTA meetings, the student body, nursing and retirement homes, pre-schools, shopping malls, and competition.
Enrichment classes
Fine arts enrichment classes are conducted from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. one day a week. The purpose of enrichment classes is to serve children who are talented in art, music, or physical development. Enrichment classes are not required nor is the school obligated to offer this program.

Students are selected for magnet enrichment classes by magnet specialists based upon outstanding ability or interest in a given area. Those students selected must maintain a 75 average in all classes, acceptable performance on the previous year's TAKS test and no P's or U's in conduct. Parents who wish special consideration for an enrichment class should notify the appropriate magnet specialist the first week of school. Priority is given to students in upper grades. If more students qualify for a class than space allows, the child's name will be placed on a wait list. Teachers make all selections.

Dismissal procedures for magnet enrichment classes are as follows:

· Regular school hours remain 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
