Accelerated Reader Program
Many classes at Lovett participate in Accelerated Reader (AR), a reading incentive program developed by Advantage Learning. The program combines the best of children's literature with computer software that tests comprehension and manages student records.
Students are periodically given the Star Reading test which determines their reading level and the reading range that would create the optimal reading enjoyment and growth for the individual child.
Students can then choose a book on their level from a wide variety of choices offered in the library. After reading the book, the student takes a comprehension test on the computer. The program provides an instant score and immediate reinforcement. Students earn points for each book they read, with the number of points determined by the length and difficulty of the reading material.
