            (Tardy Bell) 8:05 a.m.
            (Dismissal Bell)  3:00 p.m.

Extended Day 3:00p.m.-5:00 p.m.

HISD Instructional Attendance
Lovett will follow the Elementary Guidelines concerning attendance.  Absences will be marked either excused or unexcused each day.  This is a reminder to parents that a written note must be received by the school within three days of the absence.  Please be very clear to note the day(s) absent and the reason for the absence.

Attendance/Absences
Consistent attendance in school is essential to promoting good student interest, performance, and attitude.  We will abide by the Houston Independent School District Board Policy governing attendance requirements.  Compulsory attendance rules apply to kindergarten-fifth grade students.  Chronic absences will be referred to the West Region Attendance Officer and legal action will be taken.  The Attendance Committee will review the records of all students who have 8 or more unexcused absences for the year.

Attendance is officially recorded at 10:00 a.m. every day.  If a student is not on campus at the time attendance is taken he/she is counted absent.  However, students with medical appointments who are out of class at the time official attendance is recorded may be counted present provided they have documentation of the medical appointment (same day) and the student is in attendance for 50% or more of the day.

Students who have been absent or tardy MUST present the teacher with a written excuse signed by the parent/guardian within three (3) days of the absence.  All students will be given the opportunity to make up work when absent (upon request).

Students will be excused from attending school for the purpose of observing religious holy days when it is a tenet of their faith, provided a written request is sent in advance by the parent or guardian. 

When ill, a student must be free of fever for 24 hours before returning to school.

Tardy
It is most important that your child arrive to school on time.  The tardy bell rings at 8:05 a.m., after that, all children are to report to the office for a Late Slip.  When children are late for school, they are missing out on valuable instruction and preparation time.

Chronic or repeated acts of tardiness will be considered as Conduct violations.  SEVEN (7) tardies a grading period will result in the student's Conduct grade being lowered one letter grade.  Tardies are considered violations of Levels I, II and III in the Houston Independent School District Code of Student Conduct.  Repeated tardies could also jeopardize Magnet transfers.

Withdrawal from School
The school must have 24 hours notice (in writing) to prepare the necessary records for your child to withdraw from Lovett.   This cannot be done during instructional time.  Textbooks, music, library books, etc. need to be turned in and fines cleared prior to withdrawal.

A student can be withdrawn from school ONLY by the person who signed the Enrollment Card and/or has legal custody of the child.

Check-Out During the Day
An adult MUST come to the office and sign your child out in the event that
you need to take your child before the end of the school day (3:00 p.m.). We can only release your child to you or your designated emergency contact person listed on your child’s Enrollment Card. For your child’s protection, we will ask for
identification. You do not need to sign your child out of school at 3:00 p.m. This
is the regular dismissal time.

We would appreciate it if parents would not sign their child out BEFORE 3:00
p.m. The last few minutes of the day are very valuable and put final closure to
the school day! Please notify the teacher in writing so he/she will have your child prepared. This will help to minimize the disruption for all concerned

Enrollment Card Information
Please keep your child's Enrollment Card current with the correct information.  We must have the name and phone number of a responsible person to reach in an emergency situation if you are not available.  This is for your child's protection and well being.  Notify the school (teacher and office staff) of any change in address or telephone number.

Non-School Days/Staff Days
The Houston Independent School District requires teachers to receive forty-five (45) hours of staff development a year.  In order to comply with this policy, Lovett will have five (5) full days of staff development/parent involvement where students will have NO SCHOOL.  These days are district wide.  The dates are as follows:

Early Dismissal Days
The following is a list of 2007-2008 Early Dismissal Days.  School will be closed at 12:30 p.m. on these days and there will be NO Extended Day due to West District Wide Teacher Meetings:
