Computer Lab

Student at Comp.Lovett provides a technology rich environment.  The high-tech lab is equipped with thirty HP desktop computers with XP operating systems that are connected to the local area network and internet.   Classrooms, library and science lab also are equipped with XP computers that are used to help support the curriculum providing a variety of instructional strategies, professional communication and administrative support.  Technology is used as a learning tool through out the school.

Every student at Lovett gets the opportunity to work in the computer lab once a week during their scheduled class time.  Kindergarten and First grade have a 30 minute time block and 2nd grade through 5th grade have a 45 minute time block.  Open labs are available for special projects.  The computer literacy program is designed to teach the students how to use technology and to apply that knowledge to communicate and evaluate their projects. Lessons are designed to support the curriculum that is being taught in the classrooms.  Lovett students become knowledgeable and competent users of computers in a fun and exciting environment.

Students will be able to:

  • use technology terminology appropriate to the task
  • follow acceptable use policies when using computers
  • use software programs with audio, video, and graphics to enhance learning experiences
  • use a variety of input devices such as a mouse, keyboard, disk drive, modem voice/sound recorder, scanner, digital video
  • start and exit programs as well as create, name, and save files
  • use proper keyboarding techniques such as correct hand and body positions and smooth and rhythmic keystroke patterns as grade-level appropriate
  • produce documents at the keyboard, proofread, and correct errors
  • use font attributes, color, white space and graphics to ensure that products are appropriate for the communication media
  • work with more than one software application at a time
  • apply keyword searches to acquire information: and select appropriate strategies to navigate and access information for research and resource sharing
  • use appropriate software, including the use of word processing and graphics to express ideas and solve problems use appropriate software to express ideas and solve problems including the use of word processing, graphics, databases, spreadsheets, simulations and multimedia.
