Edgar Odell Lovett Elementary School is named for the first president of the Rice Institute, now Rice University. Rice University, one of America's preeminent institutions of higher education, grew out his vision, direction, and leadership. A noted authority on both mathematics and astronomy, Dr. Lovett taught at Johns Hopkins, Princeton, and the Universities of Virginia and Chicago. It was only fitting to name the school after this extraordinary educator. The school named in his honor opened in 1957.
