About Lyons Elementary

Lyons Elementary School opened in January of 1993

Lyons Elementary is located in the HISD North Region and is part of the Sam Houston High School feeder pattern.

Although Lyons is in a predominantly low-income area and predominantly minority (89% low income, 88% Hispanic, 3% Black, and 9% White), and has no magnet program, Lyons excels in its academic programs.

Lyons has been the recipient of a TEA Significant Gains Award, the Mayor's Award for Educational Excellence, a Title I Commended School Award, and two Title I Distinguished School Awards.

Lyons earned the Texas Education Agency's rating of Exemplary for the 2006-2007 school year. Lyons is one of only fifteen HISD schools to earn the Exemplary rating this year, and is the only HISD neighborhood school to earn this highest rating.
