Violin

Dr. Barbara Rask and Ms. Illa Cha teach violin lessons at Mark Twain for students in grades K-5. The parents may rent a small violin from a violin or music shop. One individual lesson, 30 minutes in length, is given per week. Good hand positions, rote playing and note reading are taught. Group lessons begin one month before each concert. The violins also perform for special occasions at Mark Twain, including Black History Month and Cinco de Mayo. Daily practice charts win prizes at concert times. Playing the violin is fun and hard work at the same time. Many fine violinists have graduated from Mark Twain to become leaders in their middle school orchestras.
