Smarty Pants | Reading 1st | Productions | 21st Century | Awards Day| Leapfrog | Girl Scouts

• Jesse C. McDade Elementary has a neighborhood gifted and talented program to provide stimulation, challenge, and enrichment for students who have met the entrance requirements.

• There is a Smarty Pants program to reward and encourage honor roll students. Students in the current reporting period (nine weeks) who achieve grades in the 90 - 100 range with no more than two grade in the 80 - 89 range. An "E" in conduct is required.

• Jesse C. McDade receives funding and materials for learning acceleration from the Title I and Reading 1st programs.

• Students participate in annual productions for Black History Month, Cinco de Mayo, and the Winter Holiday Program.

• The 21st Century program is an after school program that introduces students to opportunities available in the greater community. They are instructed in a wide range of subjects like Mad Science, karate, dance, music keyboarding, leapfrog and photography.

• The Awards Day program, Fifth Grade Promotion Exercises, and Girls' and Boys' Day reward student accomplishment and broaden horizons so our children may anticipate all the wonderful possibilities that lie in the future

• Fifth Grade Nature Camp and possible Fifth Grade Trip to learn more about the world in which we live. Students have gone to places such as Washington, D.C., San Antonio, Texas, Chicago, Ill., Atlanta Ga. and hope to visit New York, N.Y. in 2007 - 2008.

• Science Newsletter created by students with the help from  Mrs. Cynthia Lyons and member of the Science Department.

• Computer skill opportunities within each class, use of the Leapfrog systems for PreK - 2nd;  and wireless laptop computers for 3rd - 6th grade student projects and research.

• Girl Scouts Troop 23179 and Brownies Troop 23178 sponsored by Mrs. J. Gibson, Mrs. A. Simon, Mrs. D. Stewart, Ms. R Chew, Mrs. C. Lyons. Meetings are held Wednesday after school from 2:45p.m to 3:45pm. The scout troops were established to give girls a sense of community service.
