Parker Odyssey of the Mind Team Advances to State

Parker Elementary’s Odyssey of the Mind team placed first at the regional tournament
March 6^th at Paul Revere Middle School.  The Division I team competed in the
Balancing Act problem and faced 9 other area schools, including teams from
River Oaks Elementary, Herod Elementary, and West University Elementary. 
They were required to build a balsa wood structure weighing less than
18 grams and then crush the structure with weights.  The team also
had to write and perform in a skit while crushing the structure. 
Finally, they competed in a separate spontaneous portion of the competition.
Team members and coach Katie Coughlen will be advancing to the
state competition on April 3^rd at North Shore High School in Galena Park.

Just a few hours before participating in this competition,  
each of these students played an instrumental solo
at the HISD Solo & Ensemble contest held at Parker Elementary.
