Model
Lesson: the Planets
The
students will name the planets on order from the sun. They will perform the
NASA Planet Rap and view the DVD “Voyage to the Planets: a Musical Video Voyage
in Outer Space. The video uses Gustav Holst’s
orchestral suite “The Planets”.

Procedures
- The
students generate statements for KWL chart showing prior knowledge of the
solar system.
- Viewing
the overhead transparency of the planet rap the children will rap the
planets in order from the sun
- Using
the rap, the students will assemble the “Our Solar System” bulletin board
kit, placing the planets on order from the sun.
- View
the video and compare the order of movements in the piece of music with
the actual order of the planets.
Assessment/Evaluation
- The
children will build a Styrofoam solar system model ordering the planets
from the sun correctly
