Jazz Band and Guitars Perform at ARAMCO

Tuesday, May 8, was an exciting day for many of Parker’s young musicians as the Jazz Band and Guitar students traveled to play for our good friends at ARAMCO.

The 3rd grade guitar students began the program playing their crowd-pleasing dulcimer tunes.  Toes were tapping and the ARAMCO employees were smiling as they ate lunch listening to the lively folk music.

Next, the 4th and 5th grade Guitar ensemble performed six pieces, including Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” and a fun version of “Old MacDonald.”  Ben Wells played a guitar solo, “My Home’s in Montana,” a genuine cowboy song.

Last, but certainly not least, Parker’s Jazz Band played an outstanding set that had employees coming into the cafeteria just to see where the great music was coming from.  The band featured solos by Celious Barner, Ethan Clasen, John Guttman, Sharif Stallworth, Ethan Williform, and Javonte Woodson, and Mr. Campbell’s directing was as fun to watch as the band’s music was to hear.  At the end of the set, the audience expressed their appreciation by applauding long and loud.

ARAMCO always takes great care of Parker students, and on this occasion lunch was served in a large private dining room.  There were lots of smiles and happy conversations as the boys and girls enjoyed generous portions of chicken nuggets, fries, nachos, and wonderful pizza made from scratch by the chefs in ARAMCO’s kitchen.  Huge cookies and ice cream made a perfect dessert.

Everyone gave the trip a thumbs-up as the group headed back to school.  “It was a good field trip because we got to eat for free,” and “I thought the Jazz Band was great,” were typical of the many positive things students had to say.  Ethen Migura summed it up well when he said, “I think it was the best field trip of my life!”
