Over 550
students in kindergarten through fifth grade participate
in the
magnet program's comprehensive music instruction
in Suzuki strings, choral music, piano, music enrichment,
and band.
TEMPO
TEMPO - A pre-school level music class which
introduces your child (ages 1-4 years) to the
benefits and fun of music.
Parents attend these lessons with their children and are
introduced
to such concepts as rhythm and melody through listening, tapping & story telling.
There are
also related games and activities for
additional fun at home. The class meets once a week
for 6
classes.
This class will help the children with language
development, socialization,
self-expression and
self-confidence. We offer two classes for each 8 week session -
Monday morning class meets from 9:00-9:45 a.m. and the
Monday afternoon class meets from 12:00-12:45 p.m. as follows:
Session I - Fall Sept. 11,18,25,
Oct. 9, 16, 23, 30 and Nov. 6
Session II- Spring Jan. 8, 22, 29, Feb. 5, 12, 19, 26 and March 5
Register in the Magnet Office beginning November 27th
Each 8 week session costs $45.00. Give your gifted child the gift

KINDERGARTEN
· Suzuki
Violin or Cello. Students enrolled in
this class receive a private lesson
once a week during the school day, (usually between 12:00
and 12:45 p.m.).
The parent is required to come to each lesson. If parents are unable to
attend
any adult who will be the home teacher should attend (i.e. grandparent,
nanny, etc.).
An instrument is provided for each child. Group lesson (without
parents)
are held once a week during the school day.
· Music
Enrichment K. Students enrolled in this
class attend a small group (10 to 15
students once a week during the school day. They learn about all
the instruments
and study basic elements of music including rhythm and melody. Parents
are not
required to attend these classes. In the spring semester of
Kindergarten your child
will select the music area they wish to pursue in 1st grade.
FIRST GRADE
·
Suzuki Violin or
Cello.
Students enrolled in this class receive a
private lesson once a week
during the school day. The parent is required to come to each
lesson. If parents are unable to

from 3:00 p.m. until 3:45 p.m.

these classes. In the
spring semester of first grade your child will select the music area
they wish to pursue in 2nd grade.

Piano.
Students enrolled in piano class attend a group (7 to 9 students) piano
lab class once a week
during the school day. No piano classes are held after school.
Some type of keyboard is required
for practice at home.

Pre-Band.
Students enrolled in this class attend a group class once a week
during the school day.
They purchase a recorder (plastic flutophone). Each student receives
instruction in basic elements
of music as well as instruction on the recorder.
·
Rhythm Band
Students enrolled in this class attend a small group (10 to 15 students)
lesson
once a week during the school day. They play rhythm band instruments
and study basic
elements of music. These students will be candidates for Pre-Band the
following year.
Parents are not required to attend these classes.

Singers
Students enrolled in this class must
audition for the chorus director prior to being
accepted. This class meets once a week during the school day as a
general music class with
a concentration on vocal technique. These students will perform at the
combined chorus
concert in the spring of each year.
SECOND GRADE

Suzuki Violin or

Students enrolled in this class must audition for the chorus director
prior
to being accepted. The Advanced Chorus practices twice a week during the
school day
and once a week from 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
·
Beginner Band.
Band students enrolled in this class attend a small group section class
once a week during the school day. Parents are not required to
attend these classes.
The beginning band meets each afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
·
Advanced Band.
Band students enrolled in this class attend a small group section class
once a week during the school day. Parents are not required to attend
these classes.
The Advanced Band meets each afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
·
Dulcimer.
Students in this class will learn to play the dulcimer, which is a 4
stringed
instrument which is held on the lap and strummed. It is an American
Folk instrument
which originated in the Appalachia area of the United States. Dulcimers
are provided
by the school. The dulcimer group practices twice a week from 3:00 p.m.
to 3:45 p.m.
