Learning Resource Center
 |
Our aim is to proactively bridge the gap between
the student's weaknesses and strengths by assisting the student, parent, and classroom
teachers. |
THE GOAL OF THE LRC
To enable students with learning problems to be successful in the lease
restrictive environment.
HOW IS THE GOAL MET?
- By modifying methods and techniques in the regular classroom to meet the needs
of the learner who has difficulty receiving, processing. or giving back information
without altering the content of the regular curriculum.
- By supporting the Special Education student and his/her regular education
teachers.
HOW WILL THE LRC HELP YOUR CHILD?
- We will inform the parents and teachers of the student's individual strengths
and weaknesses.
- Using the information gathered from teacher sand student interactions, we might
read directions and assigned questions, work on strategies (highlighting, breaking large
assignments into parts, etc.), review important information, or modify tests.
- The Accelerated Reader program will be an integral part of reinforcing and
encouraging the growth of student reading skills.
- Students will be tested using the STAR reading assessment program and will be
encouraged to read books at their appropriate level.
HOW DOES THE LRC OPERATE?
- SCHEDULED VISITS - Students will come to the LRC on a scheduled basis. This will
enable us to better know them and their needs and plan more effectively to meet those
needs.
- The LRC will not be open on a "drop-in" basis.
- WEEKLY CONSULTATIONS - The LRC teacher will touch base weekly with teachers to
obtain an overview of lesson plans and get feedback on student performance. The
partnership with classroom teachers is an essential part of the LRC.
ROLE OF THE LRC STAFF
The teacher aides in the LRC will assist the LRC teacher(s) and the classroom
teachers on an as-needed basis. This may be in the form of helping with small groups,
assisting with organizational or instructional aids, working with study groups, or simply
reading to a child.
