Magnet Minutes
Earth Week
April 21st – 25th
Dear Parents,
We are celebrating Earth Week with some fun activities this week. We need your help with some supplies or simple objects from home to help us make this a special time for the children.
Monday: The children will be making Earth Day Pledges with their teachers. These will be written on green leaves and put on a large tree on the bulletin board in the cafeteria.
Tuesday: Your student will need to bring CLEAN recycled containers (NO GLASS) to school to be used in making a recycled sculpture. The students will be saving milk cartons at lunch.
Wednesday: The making of the sculpture.
Thursday: Decorate the recycled milk carton for the picnic.
Friday: Ecology Picnic. We will eat outside and are asking you to pack a lunch so that there will be as little garbage left as possible. Examples are cloth napkins, plastic containers, thermos etc. We will also make “Friendship Salads”. Please have your child bring one piece of fruit to share with the class. We will chop it in class and your child will use his/her milk carton as a bowl.
Thank you for all your support in making this a special Earth Week Celebration. If you would like to help or participate in any of these activities please notify your child’s teacher.
Reminder: When you replace a light bulb at home don’t forget to use the energy saving bulbs. Everyone will benefit if you do.
The students pictured are winners in the Red Elementary School Science Fair. The fair was a huge success with over 160 individual projects that were judged by community members, scientists from Baylor and members of the National Honor Society from Bellaire High School. The class winners for kindergarten were Mrs. Lanham, Ms. Sweeny and Mrs. Hayes. The first grade class winners were Ms. Cabrejos, Mrs. Maxie, Mrs. Clark, and Mrs. Fordes. The second grade class winners were Ms. Breaux, Mr. Munsell, Ms. Butler, and Mrs. Gardea. The multi-level class winner was Mr. Anwukah.
