A Word From the Principal

A Call for Neighborhood GT Students - One of the ways Red Elementary meets the needs of all students is by providing an accelerated curriculum for academically able students.  The Vanguard Neighborhood Gifted and Talented Program is offered for boys and girls who qualify using the district standards for identification of gifted students.  Potential applicants are screened using the Naglieri Abilities Test, the Stanford Achievement Test, input from teachers and the student’s report card.  Students who qualify will be placed in classrooms that provide an appropriately challenging curriculum taught by teachers who are trained in all aspects of gifted education.  Parents who feel their children might benefit from the program are invited to apply by filling out a GT application, available in the magnet office.  Applications should be submitted by April 18th to qualify for spring screening.  Parents will be notified during the summer for placement in GT classrooms in August 2009.  If you have any questions about the program please contact Judy Douglass, G/T Coordinator at 713-726-3640.
