S.C. RED ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

PTO BOARD MEETING

MONDAY, APRIL 13, 2009

 

• Mrs. Randle has announced that we will have uniforms next year.  Uniforms will be discussed on April 22 at the SDMC meeting.   A parent on PTO asked if the meeting was open to anyone and was told all were welcome.
• Early dismissal days for next year will be: Oct. 21, Dec. 9, Feb. 10, Apr. 14.  The day will end for students at 1PM on those days.  These are all Wednesdays.  Mrs. Randle is working on what will be done with after school students and bus students on these days.  
• There is an exploratory committee for dual language.  This committee will meet to see if this is feasible and a good fit for Red.  This will not change our Computer, Math and Science magnet commitment.  If this is a program Red will take on, it will not happen until fall 2010 at the earliest.
• SDMC meetings will be on the school calendars.  It was brought up that many parents did not know what the SDMC was and Mrs. Randle will try and address that in the next Red newsletter.
• After School Care is in the process of applying to be licensed by the state.  Ms. Fisher does not see this to be a problem.
• After School Care will be renting an obstacle course for May 27 from 3-6 for a party for the after school care students.  Parents of these students will be coming to help the group.  They are also planning hot dogs and other food.  
• There will be a VIPS luncheon in May.  Teachers, start putting together lists of volunteers you have had help you this year.

1.      Friends of Red suggested dual language be added          

2.      Current goal is strengthening Math, Science, and Technology

3.      Preparing for next year

4.      Will be adding Robotics program for 4^th and 5^th graders next school year

5.      Radio’s-walkie talkie- needed for safety

2.      More tours being scheduled- need help
