= FROM THE DESK OF … MS. MCBRIDE

Dear Parents,

Ms. McBride would like to thank you for the car= ds, flowers, and well-wishes she has received. While she is anxious to return, = she knows it is best to follow her doctor’s orders and so she will be at = home for at least the next few days.

Please take note of a couple of things on the calendar this week:

First, tonight at 6:00pm is Math Night= /ASPIRE. Come and hear about the math curriculum. Classroom instructional techniques will be shared along with a variety of games to play that help reinforce fa= ct fluency and increase number sense. Addition= ally, you will see how math concepts are tested through TAKS. The district’s ASPIRE program will also be shared.

Second, tomorrow Feb. = 4, at 9:30 is the “W= alk to the Well” culminating activity for the second grade’s Unit of Inqui= ry titled, H2Oh! No! Where Did It Go? The students have been uncovering= the meaning of “water is a finite resource”. Come walk 4 miles with= the students tomorrow morning and let them share some of what they have learned= .

Finally, we have reached mid-year and it is tim= e to make sure the office has correct contact information for your child. Many of you have moved and/or changed phone numbers this year. We should have at le= ast two contact phone numbers in addition to an emergency number for your child. Please stop by and update this information with the office if you have made= any changes this year.

Fifth Grade Parents:
Deadline for Camp Olympia
Fast Approaching!

The packets for the fifth grade outdoor educati= on experience were sent home on January 13^th and the Parental Permission and Health Information Form is due

back to the school on February 9, 2009 for all students plan= ning to attend Camp Olympia on March 4–6, 2009. If your child t= akes any medication, a medical release form from your physician is also required. Th= is experience will provide hands-on activities designed to teach ecological concepts, foster a concern for the environment, and promote positive interactions and teamwork. We hope all our fifth graders will attend.

The Book Fair Returns to ROE February 23-= 27^th!!!!!!

Dear 4^th and 5^th grade Parents, our ROE Science Fair is coming= up soon! As before, the Fair is open to 4^th grade students in groups of 2 or 3, and to 5^th grade students in groups of 2 or to individuals.

The Categories are:

-Physical Science (Chemistry, Physics, & Properties of Matter)<= /p>

-Earth/Space Science (Geology, Astronomy, Geography, etc)

-Life Science (Plants a= nd Animals)

Our Fair will be held before Apri= l 17^th. (Fina= l date TBD with Ms. McBride.) The last planning meeting for Scie= nce Fair Coordinators will be held on Feb. 9^th. After that dat= e I will begin officially signing up students/groups, sending out information packets & release forms, and recruiting judges. I will be giving 4^th/5<= sup>th graders this information too but I wanted to publish this as inquiries about dates, categories, group size, etc, start comi= ng in.
