Thanks so much to Natalie Cordova and t= he PTO for organizing this year’s ROE Fun Run. It was a wonderful event. The weather was perfect and a good time was had by all. And yes, my quads are s= till burning from chasing down the kids. I have decided that “warm-up lap” is a relative term.

One hundred and fifty ROE parents have accessed the new on-line grade book through the HISD portal to view their child’s grades. This is a great way to monitor your child’s progress throughout the grading period. If you have not had an opportunity = to log in, we will discuss the procedure at Wednesday’s PTO meeting.

We will preview our new dismissal proce= dures at the PTO on Wednesday as well. In the meantime, please remember that it is illegal to make a left-hand turn from Kirby into the circle drive. This is a traffic law, not a school policy. Violators may be ticketed by local constables. Have a great week!

BoxTops classroom Collection contes= t is on!

Continue clipping BoxTops off your favorite products until Thur= sday, December 18, 2009 = ;when the contest ends. Collect your BoxTops at home, put them together in bunches of 10 in ziploc bags. Then, deliver the collected Boxtops = to your classrooms and put them in your teacher’s BoxTop collection bag.= Or, you can also place collected (and labeled with your class name) BoxTops in ziplocs in the collection bins located in theKinde= rgarten hallway. Two ROE students were honored at a cere= mony = on Sunday at the Museum of Fine Arts. City Art Works teacher, Janis Fowles, entered the work of Corrigan

Murray and Lauren Sobash. The girls were presented certificates for participation and were honored with a

cookie reception following the ceremony. Their prints are on display in the foyer of the Kinder Resource Center, MFAH. Congratulations, Corrigan and Lauren.

Impact “ART iz in” competitions are beginning (Oct. 21). If yo= u have a piece of original (no help from parents, sorry),matted or framed artwork = and would like to enter the competition, please see Ms. Lieber in the art room. There are several competitions throughout the school year and we usually ha= ve at least a few winners and honorable mentions. The awards are gift certificates to Texa= s Art Supply, Impact Art tag necklaces, and your work is published on the HISD Im= pact website and sometimes on cards. Please submit any artwork for the Oct. 21 competition by this Friday, Oct. 16.

Gugliani's (formerly Coli= na's) is offering a great new School Give-Back Program that we are really excited about. On the second Tuesday of every month, Gugliani's will donate 10% of a diner's bill to our school. Just mention that you support ROE. = That's it…no scanners, IDs, or registration required! 2009 roe fun run was fun!

What a blast! This year’s fun run= was a huge success! There were so many kids and siblings, parents and ROE staff! = The weather was cool as we bundled up and ran! The buzz started Friday as many = of the staff members wore their super cool fun run shirt designed by our own R= OE mom, Nguyet Vo. Thank you Nguyet for an awesome shirt!

Saturday started out early and cool, but thanks to Ann Guerra we had two fabulous moonwalks to play in and stay warm. Keeping true to the exercise theme, there was an obstacle course moonwalk a= nd a slide moonwalk to challenge your friends to a race before the race! Ann did= a great job organizing and helping all the volunteers that spent their time making sure it stayed safe and fun for all.

We had lots of food and drinks! Thank y= ou to Elizabeth Gillan who donated all the bagels and cream cheese! We ran out by= 10am! Thank you to Janine Cashin who brought the chick-fil-a (even though she had= a wedding to go to-ROE volunteers ROCK!). Thank you to Barbara Ostdiek for getting and returning the coffee from Starbucks on Augusta and Woodway. Thank you to Starbucks who donated 2 of t= he coffee bins. Many thanks to Galin Lewis who supplied us with lots of water = and ice! Thank you to Annie Dunkin who brought all the fruit and cut it up! And many thanks to everyone who worked at passing out the food and drinks and keeping it flowing so well. Thank you to Kari Gonzales for leading roots ‘n shoots’ recycling efforts.

We started a little slow because I didn’t realize that the moonwalks had our power source that is usually used for the DJ! Max Shilstone came to the rescue with a generator! It work= ed beautifully and we were ready to roll. Dads, Daniel Peterson and Marcellous McZeal, lead everyone in an exercise routine that Coach Bomersbach had been teaching the kids. So, when they said do the “sprinkler”, they = knew what to do. It was then time for Principal Shenker and Maren Flood to lead = the kids to the track for a warm up. The kids were warm and charged the field without the leaders! The principal did some quick thinking and running and = cut across the field as Maren caught up; the ladies were still able to cross the finish line first!

The Dads Peterson and McZeal continued = their efforts in executing all the races smoothly and allowed us to finish on tim= e. Many thanks go out to Melissa Morris and her team at the finish line for ca= pturing all the winners and finishers. All finishers received medals for the competitive race and the top 3 finishers received a special medal. Melissa = and her husband Matt did a great job handing those out and really encouraging t= he kids.

Some many people came together to make Saturday great. Thank you to the registration helpers, popcorn engineersJ, Mr. Hernandez who was essential to set up!, Nurse Petner who was kept busy, Sonya Mendez who donated her services of face painting and especially Scott Wagner who ran this the last 4 years and was key this year! He helped at ev= ery step and was very patient with all my calls and questions. Again, thanks to= all who helped and attended-see you next year!

FALL FRENZY CHILDCARE OPTIONS!

Three options are available to you so y= ou can disco the night away November 6 from 7-11 at The Houston Club and support ROE! All childcare options are for ROE students only.

1. ROE Lock-in (6:30-11:30 $25)

The staff of ASP will provide childcare= at ROE! Snacks will be provided and/or you may send in your own snacks for your child(ren). Activity stations will be provided: art, dress-up, board games, karaoke, movies, etc. The children will shift to different stations throughout the evening. All external school doors will be locked, children = will be escorted by ASP staff at all times and security will be on sight. Registration forms will be coming in your folder soon. Pre-registration is REQUIRED. Questions may be directed to Ms. Heinrich.

2. Pump It Up Bellaire (6030 S.Rice 77081) 6:30-11:30: $25

Two pieces of pizza a drink, board games, movies, music and inflatables are provided. Bring some change = to play video games and air hockey. Pre-registration is REQUIRED. 3. Discover Gymnastics (747 N. Shepherd 77007) $5 per hour (6:3= 0-11:00)

SALLY FOSTER/E BOOKS/COOKIE DOUGH DELIVERY

The Entertainment books will be deliver= ed this week to the classrooms. There has been a change with the Sally Foster = and Cookie Dough deliveries. Both will be delivered to ROE next Monday, October 19^th. Please pick up your orders in the cafeteria, especially the cookie dough. There will als= o be some cookie dough available for purchase in limited supplies. Thanks for a great fundraiser. - Laura Fertak

Sticker contest

The Sticker Contest is off to a great s= tart and we have the rest of this week to accept entries. Parents, please encour= age your child to create a drawing with a colorful, fall theme about our school= and a message about helping our school by buying things at the Auction if you haven’t done so already. We will have our 5^th graders = in the Mini UN help with selecting this year’s winner!!! The contest ends on 10/16 and the entries should be placed in the “Sticker Contest”= box located in the PTO Hallway. Think of how cool that will be to have yo= ur child’s artwork presented on all of the Auction Packets that will be handed out to all in attendance. Judging will begin next week, so let’s get those drawings into the box!
