River Oaks Elementary is a Vanguard and neighborhood
school, serving a culturally and economically diverse group of over
600 students from kindergarten to fifth grade. Students in the
Vanguard program have met gifted
& talented qualifications . The neighborhood program
consists of students in the ROE
attendance zone. Our mission
is to develop creative and inquiring individuals who have a love of
learning, a sense of global responsibility, and a respect for others. The enriched curriculum focuses on problem solving,
goal setting and teamwork. We work to foster a safe and respectful
school environment; with emphasis on self-evaluation,
self-discipline and self-respect. It is our goal that each child
receives equal opportunity to achieve his or her fullest
potential.Our school provides specialized classes in science,
Spanish, art, music, technology, research skills and physical
education. The support staff includes a nurse, Suzuki violin
instructor, speechtherapist, counselor, special education teacher
and para-professionals. Our parents are actively involved in the
school.Throughout the day, they can
be seen in the hallways reading to children, helping with
instructional materials, fund raising, organizing enrichment
activities for classes and sitting on committees that guide the
direction of the school.
Our Campus
River Oaks Elementary has an outstanding campus with
many large old trees, several playgrounds, an outdoor stage area and a
Nature Center. We are very fortunate to have a Spark Park as part of
our campus. It includes a half-mile
jogging trail as well as children’s play areas. Our students have
access to aNature Center, computer lab with 30 computers, a science
lab, and classroom garden.
