Thank you so much for your help in implementing our new dismissal procedures. I am very pleased with the results. We will continue to improve our system and look forward to your continued input. Please remember to refrain from cell phone use in our school zone during arrival and dismissal. Art News Congratulations to Noah Pittman (2nd grade) and Lily Podzemney (3rd grade) for their designs that were selected to go to Central Region for the HISD Winter Holiday Art Card. Each school was asked to select one winning design that will represent the school in the regional contest; then that winner goes to the overall district competition. The final winner will be selected by the superintendent. Good luck to both students!! Volunteer of the Day Interested in being ROE's Volunteer of the Day? Assisting the front office with their administrative duties is a great way of being involved in your child's school. There are still many days (few Wednesdays though) available to sign up. If interested, email me the date or dates you can volunteer (only one volunteer a day). Thanks! Isabella Alcañiz, ialcaniz@uh.edu and Sarah Bloome, PTO Volunteer Coordinators Leonid Meteor Shower Dear ROE Community: The Leonid Meteor showers are here! This event is on HISD's Informed Source calendar as well as on most 'must see' astronomy lists. :) The Leonids originate from the Leo radiant of the sky and showers occur when the Earth passes through a debris field left by a comet, in this case the 1467 & 1533 debris streams from Comet Temple-Tuttle. The Leonids will end on the 21st but the peak period this year is the night of the 17th from 2:30 to 4:30 am. Meteors are expected to avg. a spectacular 200 to 300 per hour over Asia and 30 to 50 per hour over North America, ~triple the normal rate. :) No optics are needed and because the New Moon is on the 16th moonlight will not be a factor this year. All you'll need is a place away from city lights, something hot to drink, and a few blankets! Enjoy...Paul Rainn, Science Specialist Sally Foster/Cookie Dough The missing orders of cookie dough arrived yesterday. If you did not pick yours up, please do so as it is taking up room in the cafeteria freezer. The prizes for the Entertainment books finally made it and will go home with the students soon. Thank you for a great fundraiser. Enjoy the cookies! Please contact me with any questions/concerns at murphtak@comcast.net. – Laura Talking Turkey We are still in need of parent volunteers to meet and greet for Magnet Awareness week. If you are interested and available for Wednesday or Friday this week at 12:30-1:15, contact Andy Williams or Shelly Vara at 713-942-1460.
