Parent Responsibilities VIPS PAC

Your support, encouragement, and participation in your child's education are very important. Scarborough values the partnership between schools and families as we work together for the benefit of your children.  Your input and involvement in your child's education is the key to success in school.  If you have questions, please feel free to call the school or make an appointment with your child's teacher.  If, after your conference with the teacher, you need more assistance, call the school secretary to make an appointment to see the principal or assistant principal.  We welcome you as partners.

Parent Responsibilities
Parents' responsibilities in Behavior Intervention are also outlined in the Code of Conduct.  Listed below are other ways that we feel you can help encourage your students to be a successful student.

  • Be sure your child attends school daily.  Promptly report and explain absences and tardies to the school.
  • Encourage proper study habits at home such as completing homework and reading each night.
  • Participate in meaningful parent-teacher conferences to discuss your child's school progress and welfare.
  • Attend parent training workshops for home reinforcement ideas to assist your child.
  • Stay informed of school rules and encourage your child to obey these rules.
  • Participate in school-related organizations.
  • Be sure that your child is appropriately dressed for school and school-related activities and has all material needed for class.
  • Discuss report cards and progress reports with your child.
  • Bring to the attention of school authorities any learning problem or condition that may relate to your child's education.
  • Maintain up-to-date school records for your child including work numbers and emergency contact numbers.
  • Cooperate with school administrators and teachers to assist your child.
  • Be sure your child attends school tutorials when needed.

Volunteers
Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) is a district wide program that invites parents, community, leaders, and other concerned individuals into the schools to assist teachers in meeting needs of all students.  Individuals can volunteer at home or at school.  VIPS must fill out a one-time registration form with the district.  Also, a Scarborough form must be filled out each year and is kept on file at the school.
