2007 Pumpkin-Literature Contest

The Scroggins Pumpkin-Literature Contest is a classroom activity in which the students collaborate to create a display that represents their interpretation of a piece of literature. A pumpkin or pumpkins must be used in the display. The book or story must adhere to the current year's theme. The teacher and/or students may choose the book or story but most or all of the students in the class must participate in the creation of the display.
 This year the theme is: Biography

This year's contest will be held on: Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at 9:00 a.m.

 Judging criteria will be:

  • Creativity in construction
  • Accuracy and completeness of label
  • Adherence to theme
  • Evidence that most or all of the children in the class participated in creating the display

Also, the display must be child-created. No store-bought kits will be allowed.

 

Date and Time:
This year's contest will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2007. The finished display should be ready for judging by 9:00 a.m. Please do not carve pumpkins until Monday, October 29.

 

 

 

 

Display Rules:

  • If your display is larger than 1/2 table, please bring and cover your own table.

  • Do not write your name anywhere on the project except on the label.

  • A copy of the book on which the project is based must be displayed with your pumpkin.

  • We will provide a label that must be completed and included with your display. The label will require the following information:

    • Title of the book

    • Author of the book

    • Continent of origin of the book/story

    • Grade level of entry

    • Classroom teacher’s name
