| Homework |
| Homework is assigned to
enhance what is being taught in the classroom. Its purpose is to
provide additional practice and emphasize important concepts that the
pupils are learning. Homework is necessary for student progress
and the development of good study skills. If homework is not
assigned on a particular evening, it is wise to have your child read
something, write a story, compute math problems or study math facts,
practice handwriting, study spelling, or work on the
computer. Read with your child every night! |

| Visits |
| Parents are always welcome at
Seguín! We ask that parents enter the building, sign in at the
reception area, and obtain a visitor's pass which is to be worn during
their stay. We have a new security system that requires all visitors
to show a current I.D. Please make sure you bring your license or
Texas I.D. We do ask that parents not disturb
instruction. Each teacher has a designated conference time during
which a parent can schedule a meeting. This can be done by either
calling the school or sending a written request. |

| Communication |
| Never has communication been
easier at Seguín Elementary! Teachers appreciate an open line
of communication with each and every parent. Most teachers are
willing to schedule meetings before and after school and are always
available during their scheduled planning time. There are several
ways that you can easily secure a meeting with a teacher. You can
call the school and leave a message on their answering service, you may e-mail
the teacher, or you can send a note with your child. |

| Accidents
or Illnesses |
| The safety and well-being of
our students is our number one concern. We constantly do our best
to keep our school a safe and carefree place for everyone.
However, accidents do happen and children do get sick while on
campus. In the event of an accident or injury, the student is
first sent to our beautiful clinic. There, our extremely capable
nurse, Nurse Mavronicles, will assess the situation. If she
deems it necessary, she will contact a parent, so the child can be
picked up and brought home or to the doctor. If Nurse
Mavronicles is unable to reach a parent, she will then call the
emergency number written on the child's enrollment card.
If a child is on any type of medication,
the parent needs to send the medicine with the doctor's order and
instructions, so the
nurse can administer it to the child. The nurse can't administer
any medication without a doctor's order, it doesn't matter what type of
medication it may be. |

circular drive, for the safety of your child. |

| Attendance |
| Students are required to
attend school daily. The only absences that are excused are death
in the family, personal illness, and inclement weather (which would
result in the closing of schools). Parents are required to send
the teacher a letter or doctor's excuse upon a student's return from an
absence. Frequent absences may result in an attendance referral
which would constitute a visit to the home by an attendance
officer. The official attendance count is taken at 9:45 am.
Any child that comes to school after 9:45 will be counted absent as well as any
child taken out of the school before 9:45 am |

| Inclement
Weather |
| In case of bad weather,
parents should tune into the radio or television for information about
school closings. The Superintendent of Schools will decide whether
or not to close the schools, then make an official announcement. You
may call the Inclement Weather Hotline—Call 713-267-1704
for any schedule changes that may occur because of the weather. |
