Community
Shearn Elementary School is committed with its community. Serving a 70 % Hispanic population ESL classes are offered to adults. In addition computer classes are offered in Spanish as part of the CCA Program in conjunction with the Mexican Consulate.
Shearn students receive tutorial services from St. Catherine's Montessori School. St. Catherine's students come and work with Shearn Students weekly under the direction of Ms. Norma Santamaria.
The Houston/Harris County RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) is pleased to announce that its first “Young at Heart” tutoring program is up and running at Shearn Elementary School in Southwest Houston. This program is being overseen by Ms. Barbara Melnik who can be reached at 713-729-3200, extension 3227 or on-line at bmelnik@jcchouston.org.
A special thanks to Dr. Phyllis Morgan who supplied Shearn's students with back backs this year.
Since the year 2000, our children are learning to save money thanks to Washington Mutual, Every Thursday is Banking Day when the children can deposit their money right here in the school. Washington Mutual provides special treats for those who make deposits regularly.
